August 2009 Newsletter

From Reverend Claire Rose-Casemore:

I expect by now you are enjoying some kind of Summer break- whether the holiday is spent abroad or at home. Thankyou to those who supported the ASL Summer Fayre- it was a really great day- and I was grateful to Chris and David who led a really interesting tour of the village and Church respectively. So much thought also had gone into the stalls and the pony rides and teas. It was one of those lovely community events and it was good to see friends from inside and outside the village. Thankyou to all those who put in such hard work.

With this newsletter you will also be posted a flier about a Family Service this Sunday (26th July) at Ashby at 4pm. Marian (our Reader) and Sue Brooks are bringing instruments for the children to try out and make in the Service- and the theme is ‘Thankyou for the music!’  Please come and join us!

We are all given talents whether they are artistic, musical, or poetic. Or for those who rely more on the left hand of their brain mathmatical, logistical, logical etc. Its great that we are all made differently! Our experts tell us that in relaxation we should exercise the other side of the brain which we normally use. I hope the holiday offers you that opportunity!

As children of God we are also not only made to create but to relate. One of the real insights I gained from my training at Theological College was that God being Father, Son and Holy Spirit is community- and we being made in his image reflect him- so we are relational creatures! Hence community and our relationships with one another are essential for fullness of life -as is expressing ourselves creatively!

I hope this holiday you have time to relate and create and also time to just ‘be’!

God bless, Revd Claire

From the Parochial Church Council:

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Ashby St Ledgers Summer Fayre such an enjoyable and successful day.  We are delighted to inform you that together we managed to raise over £1000 profit, which will be divided equally between the church, the Village Hall and the playground.  We were particularly grateful to receive so many books, DVDs and videos by way of donation.  Those that did not sell at the Fayre are being kept in the church with an honesty box – do pop in and browse through them when you have a few moments.
