November 2009 Newsletter

From Reverend Claire Rose-Casemore:

November is traditionally a month for remembrance.  We remember ‘the Saints’ on 1 November – ordinary people who through history have led extraordinary Christian lives.  We will be commemorating this at All Saints’ Church in Braunston at 11am on 1 November – a service to which you are very warmly invited.  A service for remembering loved ones will be held on Sunday 25 October at Holy Cross, Daventry at 6.30pm and incorporated within the 4pm Evening Service here in Ashby.  Again, you are welcome to come and have a moment of quiet to give thanks for those who are so special to us.

On 8 November at 9.15am in Ashby, we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice – in two World Wars and, of course, in present day Iraq and Afghanistan.  There is something right and proper in honouring their memory and remembering the human cost of war so that we never cease striving for peace.

Every blessing, Revd Claire

From the Parochial Church Council:

We would like to resurrect the church reading and prayer rota in Ashby in 2010 and get more people involved in the life of the church.  If anyone is interested in being included on the rota, please contact Nadia Barton or any member of the PCC in the first instance.
Also, if anyone is considering being or having their child (usually from 11 years upwards) confirmed in 2010, would they please let Reverend Claire know, as we are trying to gauge whether there is sufficient interest to run classes in Ashby.

Finally, don’t forget that there are still tea towels and tote bags commemorating the 800th anniversary of worship in our church, elegantly designed by the village’s very own Chris Levatt.  These are for sale at £3.50 per tea towel/bag or three for the bargain price of £10 and will make excellent Christmas presents for family and friends whilst also raising valuable funds for the running of the church.  If you would like to make a purchase, please either contact Sue Brooks or some will be left in church with an honesty box for payment.  In addition, there still remain a great many second hand books for sale in the church, so don’t forget to browse those also.
