From Reverend Claire Rose-Casemore:
It must be amazing to live in a village with so much history to it. This month we celebrate 800 years of recorded worship in Ashby church. If walls could talk then I am sure they would tell us a thing or two about the comings and goings of congregations through the ages! As our Team Reader, Angela Squires, reminded us the other day: if the Gunpowder Plot had been successful, perhaps there would have been quite a different tale to tell!
Bruce Turton, our Churchwarden, has worked on a manuscript listing chronologically all the historic events of the past 800 years. The manuscript has yet to be typeset and printed, but we will let you know when it is available to buy.
Also in celebration of the 800 years of worship, do join us at the Patronal Festival on Saturday 3 October from 11.15am. The new Team Rector, Canon Michael Webber, will be preaching and the Archdeacon of Northampton, the Venerable Christine Allsopp, will be taking the service. The service will be followed by lunch in the village hall. After the Friends’ short meeting, there will be a lecture by Ken Surman rather intriguingly entitled ‘History under the carpet’.
If, to mark this wonderful occasion, you would like to become a Friend of the Church, then please pick up a form from the table in the church. For only £5 a year you will be kept in touch with church life and be contributing to the upkeep and maintenance of such a beautiful building.
Every blessing, Revd Claire
